Robinson Crusoe is a novel written by Daniel Defoe. It is
known as first realistic novel in English Literature. It tells us a Crusoe’s
struggle which saved from shipwreck. He survived alone, and he tried to adjust
in the island. He made a cottage from the stuff found in ship. He planted corn.
He kept a dairy and wrote events that lived through. By the way, he became
friend with one of the cannibals. He trained him, and named him as Friday. They
became close friends. At the end, Friday died and a british ship saved Robinson
Crusoe.
We can see so many effects of realism. For example; mading
cottage, planting corn, keeping diary, naming his friend as Friday, teaching
English to him etc.
“O drug!” said I
aloud, “what art thou good for? Thou art not worth to me, no, not the taking
off of the ground; one of those knives is worth all this heap; I have no manner
of use for thee; e’en remain where thou art and go to the bottom as a creature
whose life is not worth saving.” However, upon second thoughts, I took it away."
There is a quotation from Robinson Crusoe. “Drug” does not
have the exact mean. It means “money.” Crusoe found money from the ship, but there
was no need to use money, because he was living alone in the island. Even
though money was so needless in island, he took money. Maybe he thought that one
day he would save from island and then he could use it.
